This History and Theories of Urbanism course sets to learn about a range of perspectives and analytical approaches. The intent is to introduce just some of the prevailing global concepts in urban theory, foregrounding critical, participatory, practice-based, and inclusive strategies.
WHAT IS PLAYFUL URBANISM?
Despite what the name may suggest, playful urbanism is not based exclusively on building play structures or children’s areas. In fact, playful urbanism is a complex multilevel phenomenon where architecture creates a space in which the purpose is to interact with all its visitors and bring a sense of whimsy and/or awe. Playful urbanism is possible at all scales including small exterior art pieces, large public plazas, as well as very large projects such as theme parks.
