MUSKOKA CENTRE REVITALIZATION PROJECT
The current Muskoka Regional Centre is left in ruins leaving behind a dark past and a blurred future. In recognition of its history and the need of the town’s citizens, the newly proposed site first introduces the park with a memorial in memory of those who suffered in the dark past. The site focuses on establishing an education hub and research facility with nearby affordable housing and residential care homes for the elderly.
The goals and guidelines of this project promote indigenous empowerment, protection of cultural and natural environments, simulation of economic growth, and multi-functional facilities with various programs and activities. This project aims to accommodate individuals of all ages. The indigenous community friendship centre will include a library, gym, workshop space, outdoor gardens, and various outdoor event spaces. The research centre will partner with the Canadian Water Network and promote the studies of lakes and rivers as part of a more significant effort to improve water quality. The gage building will combine multi-functional urban spaces, including studio spaces, offices, commercial spaces, and temporary dorm-like housing facilities for artists and academics in need of these intended spaces. Other leisurely amenities, including open green spaces, forest paths, waterfront activities, and various workshops throughout the site accommodate it. Overall, the park benefits residents of Gravenhurst by introducing educational programming and promoting social interaction, which aims to redefine what a retreat is like in the Muskoka region.
